INTERNET SAFETY
1. Keep computer with internet access in a common area of the house (not child’s bedroom).
2. Establish Computer rules:
a. What sites can visit.
b. Who they talk to online
c. How long they are online
3. Discuss Importance of telling an adult of something if it makes your child feel uncomfortable online.
4. Know your child’s online friends.
5. Don’t list your child’s email address in any directory.
6. Know how to set parental controls and check history file.
7. Have child choose a screen name that doesn’t identify their age or if boy or girl.
8. Don’t share your password with anyone except a parent…not even a best friend.
9. Do not respond to aggressive emails.
10. Don’t give out personal information or create profiles online.
11. People on line may or may not be who they say they are.
12. Never depend solely on technology to protect you online.
